Iran : A Story Of Despair

Hello. I've never follow the current situation in Iran after the greatly disputed election. I thought that it was just another riot, in another Arab country. Typical huh? You don't agree, demonstrate your anger. We can see the pattern there. Thailand, for instance was shook by the downfall of Thaksin. Abhisit's people are told to do riots as a symbol of their displeasure. The result? Thaksin's supporter did the same during Abhisit's reign. Now, it's like a cycle. The one that you really need to struggle to break.

I believe the thing that started this episode in the Iranian government is the result of the recent election. Duh!! Like dude, you're blind or something? Okay, pointing the obvious. Well, Ahmadinejad is someone that wants to be the champion of the Muslim world. He openly criticised the West and ignored Washington's threat over the nuclear issue. He clearly state his point that the West, especially the United States cannot be trusted. Even when President Obama is trying to reach out with him, he spat the leader of the Free World with accusations of meddling with his country's affairs.

Mir Hossein Mousavi on the other hand is some guy who was on the Presidential race against Ahmadinejad in 2009. Ha3 no2, that's a very weak intro for a man so important in Iran's history. Mousavi, to me is an opportunist. He sees the weak support Ahmadinejad is getting by the professionals of Iran. While Ahmadinejad closes the door for the US, Mousavi brings promise that he will try to improve the ties between Tehran and Washington. Such act would bring Iran's economy to a better phase. It will also bring Iran out of the line of fire.

The outcome of the election was unexpected I guess. Ahmadinejad gained approximately 24.5 million votes, with a majority of 11 million votes. Hm, so much about his people's rejection. What I really despise is the fact that Mousavi urged his supporters to demonstrate out on the streets. What kind of a leader are you, Mr Mousavi? You are there, inside some safe place, and there are your people, battling with the authorities, dying. I understand that you are disappointed, but hey, for your country's sake, start acting like an adult. You didn't get the candy, so why do you have to wreck the store? Mousavi was so sure that he's going to win that when he didn't, he blamed each and everyone who is in power.

From the beginning, I hate demonstrations, be it peace or the other. There is a thin line between street demonstration and stupidity. Oh let me rephrase that. Street demonstration is stupidity. There are other ways for you to show your disagreements. Talks, for example. Or maybe you can use the Internet. There are other ways to use your computer other than throwing it towards the militia, you know? So, my prayers are for Iran to gain peace in the near future, and let it be a lesson for all of us. Throughout history, demonstrations get people nowhere.
